The Honda coffee table
is made from a rear car window. The window provides a solid surface
and is supported by four legs resembling tires. By placing the table's
surface on wheels the original purpose of being from a car is kept.
The window itself is from an '83 Honda Accord and the defrost lines
are still intact. The wheels are made from rolled sheet metal and
surrounded with rubber and can be used to hold magazines.
The design process for
the Honda coffee table began with the rear window. Different bases
were explored for supporting this window. A base resembling wheels
from a car was chosen because it best reflected the reason the window
existed in the first place. Honda can be taken apart and for easy
storage and reassembly.
